FOUR CANDLES

Fork Handles – Four Candles …

Fork Handles – Four Candles … is not exactly the way it works, but the essence of the message is there and used many times over in the classic sketch that most of us love and know so well …

In this technical age where almost everything we write using a computerised “device” is spell checked, the selection of the correct word does not always seem to be important to the writer and as a consequence I wonder if in the future homophones will disappear from our language altogether in order to simplify it – what a sad day that will be?

A ‘homophone’ is a word that is pronounced the same as another word but differs in meaning, and may differ in spelling. The words may be spelled the same, such as rose (flower) and rose (past tense of “rise”), or differently, such as carat, caret, and carrot, or to, two, and too.

So take a little time, join in and see how many more you can add – no cheating using search engines …

Here are a few to get you started – I’m sure the eloquent and competitive among you will come up with many more and hopefully a link of more than three 😉
